A mattress and box spring are two physical pieces, even when a hauler counts the pair as one bulky item. Add split foundations, adjustable bases, frames, headboards, and footboards separately.
Count it this way
| What you see | What to list |
|---|---|
| Mattress only | 1 mattress |
| Mattress on one foundation | 1 mattress + 1 foundation |
| King on split foundations | 1 mattress + 2 foundations |
| Complete bed | Mattress + foundation(s) + frame parts |
Why it matters
Each piece adds volume and may need a different turn. A box spring is rigid; a foam mattress may flex.
Compare current rules
Dayton requires wrapping for municipal bulk collection. Rumpke publishes different item-count rules by service. Confirm the rule for your address before staging anything.
